Welcome to Up in the Hill! We are a family-owned organic chocolate farm and eco lodge located on Isla Bastimentos in Bocas del Toro, Panama. We started our farm in 2002, and since then we have grown into a fully functioning permaculture farm, producing cacao, chocolate, coconut oil, fruits, herbs and coffee, to name a few. With the production of our farm’s natural resources came the making of our own line of 100% natural body products and also our delicious farm to table coffee shop menu.

Ebikes are battery powered bikes!  They have pedal assist with torque sensor technology.  The motor enhances your output and allows you the freedom to see the island at your own pace!  No experience necessary! Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

How fast can I go?

Plenty fast!  Our Ebikes go up to about 19 mph/30 kph!  You can control the speed just like a regular bike.  The harder you pedal, the bigger the boost you'll get, the faster you'll go!  Or you can just hit the throttle and away you go!!!

How far can I go?

The ebikes average range is around 30 miles/45 kilometers.  That's an easy trip from one end of the island and back!  Our fat tire beach cruisers make for a comfortable ride.

How is this better than a regular bike?

Try it and you'll find out why!  This is better than a regular bike because you set your own pace.  Let the pedal assist help you as little or lot as you want.  With an ebike, you get the same joy of riding while giving your legs a bit of a break.  You can also go faster, which makes taking a bike for longer trips more attractive, especially if your crunched for time!

Bluff Beach Retreat

 We enjoy taking our guests and visitors to Bocas del Toro on 2-3 hour guided Horseback Rides along the Bluff Beach Road to the pools of Finca Floras. Your journey will take you to the secluded beautiful ocean pools of La Piscina and Blue Lagoon. The pools are calm and perfect for swimming and snorkelling – bring your gear if you like.  Pack a lunch or snack to enjoy on the beach.  Or, stop at one of Bluff Beach’s excellent restaurants at the end of your ride.

Ideally, we schedule rides to depart from Bluff Beach at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm (other times can be arranged). This will keep the horses and riders out of the intense afternoon heat. The majority of the ride is shaded by trees. Tours depart from Bluff Beach Retreat.
